What makes the difference

In Silverlake Automotive Recycling we seriously invest in improving our processes, not only from the human perspective but also heavily from the IT side to deliver, a seamless process  to our priority customers. We have been working with the largest bodyshop players in UK to understand and adapt our processes to their challenges. These give us the confidence to be one of the UK National leaders in our sector.

Silverlake is certified to the VRA UK Standard for reclaimed parts and follows a rigorous, professional, quality assured reclaimed parts process that has also helped us to achieve ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 27001 Certification. As an automotive recycling business founded in 1946 we have 78 years’ operational history in recycling and protecting the environment.

Silverlake has stocks of over 50,000 quality-graded, warranty assured, OEM reclaimed parts at its automotive recycling facility in Southampton, but also through their systems has access to more stock from other VRA Certified Recycling businesses. With our own Nationwide Van Delivery we can assure the quality of our parts and that they are handled with care through all the processes from when is dismantled from the donor vehicle until our customer receives it.

Parts are catalogued and the warehouse inventory is automatically updated as parts are sold and new stock comes in.

Our Process

The Decision-Making Unit at Silverlake determines the route a salvage vehicle will follow on arrival at site.  According to a vehicle’s salvage code it will either be dismantled for parts or re-marketed for sale on the company’s online auction. The company uses data and analytics combined with market intelligence to ensure it is sourcing the vehicles and models which meet customers’ parts needs and market demand.  Parts are dismantled carefully to maintain the best possible condition.

We recycle over 96% of all end-of-life vehicles that we process at our Authorised Treatment Facility in Southampton, exceeding the requirements placed on us by the Environment Agency.

We have supplied reclaimed vehicle parts to our customers for decades, both through our full-service VRA Certified solution where our team dismantles parts and provides them quality graded with warranties and provenance history.

With the growth in demand for reclaimed parts in recent years, we have developed a scalable, commercially viable circular economy, directly responding to the difficulties faced by insurers, bodyshops and garages when trying to source new parts to repair vehicles.  Confidence in our service is at an all time high and use of Silverlake’s reclaimed parts is helping to reduce our customers’ carbon footprints.

Once the parts are dismantled, they are cleaned thoroughly to make sure any faults are visible before the quality assurance process begins.

After the part has been cleaned the technician examines it for any visible imperfections.

This is an important step of the process to assure the quality of the parts and the true damage is visible.

Transparency is the key

The technician highlights any imperfections on the part to ensure full visibility and transparency regarding condition, prior to taking images of the part so that potential buyers can inspect it on online platforms or the website.

The technician carries out a paint depth check across the entire part

The technician carries out a paint depth check across the entire part to detect if the part has had previous damage and been repaired which will affect its quality grading.

For us is very important that our customers do not have any surprise when receiving our parts. Knowing the full condition of our parts, allows them to make the best decision for their repairs and they can consider it in the repair process.

Once the earlier stages of the quality check process have been completed, the part is then given a Quality Grading, in line with the VRA UK Standard for Reclaimed Parts. This ensures consistency of approach to grading across the business, giving customers confidence in the product and its quality.

VRA Grading

Discrepancy in the grading of reclaimed parts has been always a challenge, that is why all our technicians are been fully trained and certified by VRA.

A minimum of six images and a maximum of 24 images are taken of every part in Silverlake’s reclaimed parts inventory. The number of photos taken is determined by the nature of the part and any imperfections, all of which are highlighted in the imaging process. This ensures customers can have confidence in knowing exactly what they are buying.

Our system tags every part with an unique QR code that makes all the process where the part is involved much easier, allowing all the devices used to identify each of then to avoid any confusion and assuring the traceability through the whole process.

Parts imaging

Silverlake also uses recycled materials to wrap and package parts, ensuring that they are protected during transit and arrive with the customer in the expected condition.
